The Physics Study Program at Tanjungpura University (Untan) has been a part of FMIPA (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) since its establishment. Officially, the implementation of education in the Physics Study Program is based on the letter from the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education No. 3494/D/T/2001, which was then extended by the letter No. 2320/D/T/2004, and further extended by the letter No. 1131/D/T/2008. Currently, the learning activities in the Physics Study Program are based on the letter from the Rector of Tanjungpura University on behalf of the Director General of Higher Education No. 11185/D/T/KN/2012.

Students come from all over West Kalimantan Province and various regions of Indonesia. Undergraduate student selection is conducted through national selection paths (SNMPTN and SBMPTN) and independent selection. The academic staff serving the Physics Study Program hold doctoral and master's degrees obtained from various universities worldwide.

The Physics Study Program will continue to improve to ensure a culture of quality in all its activities. One of these efforts includes curriculum review to ensure its relevance to contemporary needs. The existing curriculum in the Physics Study Program integrates the core curriculum of the Physics program based on directions from professional organizations, feedback from various stakeholders, and the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) paradigm launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The aim is for this curriculum to be a tool to enhance the quality of graduates and achieve a link and match between the academic world and the job market. This effort requires continuity and sustainability, hence periodic reviews and evaluations will be conducted to ensure the effective implementation of this curriculum, supporting the achievement of the institution's vision and mission
